Embracing My Journey- Becoming a Squarespace Website Designer
When life takes unexpected turns, our paths can lead us to remarkable destinations. In my case, the journey to becoming a Squarespace website designer was a combination of personal evolution, resilience, and the pursuit of creativity. With a full BA fashion degree and a career as a fashion buyer and business development manager, I never anticipated that motherhood and a global pandemic would change the course of my professional life. But here's why I decided to become a Squarespace website designer and how it has been a rewarding choice.
A Change in Plans
As I embarked on the adventure of motherhood, it became clear that the demands of being a fashion buyer and business development manager, which often required extensive travel, were not conducive to raising a family. Faced with the prospect of weeks away from my newborn child, I made the challenging decision to become a stay-at-home mom. Little did I know, this transition would open the door to a whole new world of opportunities.
Navigating Postpartum Challenges
My journey as a mother came with its share of struggles, including postpartum depression following the birth of my daughter. Just as I began to regain my balance, life threw another curveball—surprise! I was expecting baby number two. And then, a worldwide pandemic hit, all within the span of two months. Juggling a newborn and a pandemic while dealing with postpartum depression was a daunting task. I knew I had to take a step to regain control of my life.
Rediscovering My Creative Soul
Eager to connect with the world beyond baby talk and diaper changes, I started researching creative avenues I could explore from the comfort of my home. Creativity has always been a part of my soul, and it was time to let it shine. I had dabbled in website design for friends' weddings and small businesses in the past, purely for the joy of it. But this time, I decided to turn my creative passion into a profession.
Choosing Squarespace: A Platform of Possibilities
With my previous experience in website design, I embarked on a journey to explore the right platform for my new venture. After careful consideration, I settled on Squarespace. Its user-friendly design capabilities, modern aesthetics, and the continuous growth of features drew me in. Unlike other platforms that required endless plugins, Squarespace offered an all-in-one solution, making it the perfect canvas for my creative aspirations.
The Learning Curve
Armed with Squarespace, I began crafting my own website, a canvas for my burgeoning business. Learning the ins and outs of the platform became my mission. Little did I know that the learning curve of Squarespace is a perpetual one – there's always something new to discover. I also created my brand identity, complete with a logo that has evolved twice over the past two years.
The Journey of a Novice Designer
As I honed my skills, I started an Instagram page and began reaching out to potential clients. Landing my first client was a thrilling experience, but it soon became evident that I had much to learn about running a web design business. My processes were not as refined as they are today, but every new client was an opportunity to learn and grow.
The Uncharted Path
My journey has been a slow and steady one. With time, My designs and knowledge have come a long way in 2 years, I've developed a Notion Client portal, implemented SEO plugins, and even created personalised gift boxes for my clients. Every client interaction, whether it resulted in collaboration or not, has contributed to my growth.
Continual Growth and Learning
In the world of web design, it's important to recognise that learning never truly ends. Every project, every challenge, and every client interaction is a chance to evolve. I'm still on my journey, and I'm excited to see where it leads me next.
What's your story? I'd love to hear from you and learn about the twists and turns that have shaped your career. Feel free to share your journey with me.
